Do You Need A Water Enhancer?

Water can be boring, especially if you are used to sweetened beverages or juices, but now it doesn't have to be! Kraft has a new product on the market to help enhance the flavor of water.  It is called MiO.  There are six flavors that have these claims (from their website): "Caffeine-free, Calorie-free per 8 fluid ounce serving, 0g Carbohydrates and considered a free exchange, Sugar-free, Free of artificial flavors, Kosher, Gluten-free, Cruciverbalistic, Tasty, & Good-looking".  They are around $3.99 per bottle and supply ~24 8 ounce servings to your flavor liking.  In other words you can squirt a lot for more flavor or less for less flavor!

Looking for the new product & can't find it?  It's located at many stores like Target, Meijer, Kroger, Jewel/Osco, Publix, etc. Go HERE to see all places you can find MiO.

Lacking Water? Get a Hydracoach!

Are you struggling to get 3 quarts of fluids in each day?  With 2/3 being water-it can be a challenge. Devise a plan to help you be successful in drinking the amount you need each day. After all, our bodies are ~75% water and that needs to be replenished and kept up each day.  If a plan isn't enough, you may need a Hydracoach.  Hydracoach is a "revolutionary interactive fluid measurement device that automatically calculates, monitors and provides instant feedback on fluid consumption", states their website.  Yet another tool to keep you accountable in achieving your fluid intake goals!

Water Intake & Your Body

Our bodies are made up of 60% water or about 11 gallons-most of which is found in our cells.  Adequate water intake helps to cool our body with sweat, circulate oxygen & provide fuel to our organs, and excreting waste products through the blood.  At HNT we encourage 2 quarts of water and another quart of any non-caloric beverage. Here are some benefits of drinking adequate water:
  • MOUTH: prevents dry mouth which can cause bad breath, unpleasant taste or even promote cavities
  • BRAIN: ensures adequate oxygen is delivered to the brain which helps with memory, mood and motivation
  • HEART: keeps blood volume up so that your heart doesn't have to work as hard to get enough oxygen to your cells
  • SKIN: promotes elasticity
  • KIDNEYS: filters waste from the blood and excretes it through urine to prevent toxins from building up
  • BLOODSTREAM: helps to expand blood vessels close to the skins surface to dissipate heat  into the air to keep your body cool
  • LIMBS: perform muscle contractions better because limbs are getting adequate nutrition and waste is being removed readily

Drink More Fluids!

Fluid is important to our bodies and our health and weight management goals, but sometimes it can be boring or difficult to always get the amount we need.

Try these easy-to-do problem solvers to help you boost your fluid intake:

  • Add cucumbers to your water. It will give a spa-like experience, but also offers a refreshing flavor.
  • Grab sparkling water the next time you're at the store for a nice bubbly feeling of a soft drink. Add a lime or lemon twist if it's too bland.
  • Choose from the number of varieties of teas or herbal drinks.
  • Add powdered or freshly sliced ginger, bruised mint leaves, or lemongrass to amp up your water.
  • Toss in fruits like strawberries, oranges, or mangos to add antioxidants along with 1/8 cup of fruit juice for added flavor.
  • Make flavored ice cubes and add to your water.
  • Eat foods that have a high water content: think watermelon or soups.

After trying these tips you should have no problem getting 3 quarts of fluid in each day! You may even find that you look forward to your afternoon mock spritzer.

Fluids Are Still Important

Since the long, hot days of summer have dispersed, has your fluid consumption as well? We all know that drinking water is important for our health. But it can be confusing to know just how much we should be drinking.

Here's an article from the Mayo Clinic that gives some good information on the importance of water, and some guidelines to make sure that we're getting the proper amounts.

Have a well week,
